While on a recent trip back to England I visited the local women's hospital and toured the unit with one of the midwives (called 'Sisters') who run the labor ward, to find out how birth was 'done' there. It was a great day! And I was happy to learn that doulas are becoming more popular there.
Meeting other Doulas, Midwives and birth practitioners allows me to ask questions, get new perspectives, and expand my birthing practice. I become re-inspired at these seminars from leaders in the birthing field like Suzanne Arms, Ina May Gaskin, Michel Odent, Marsden Wagner, Pam England and Marie Mongan and Penny Simkin who have pioneered new ways (aligned with traditional) to encourage the most natural birth.
